Do You Really Need Pet Insurance?

Pet insurance. What are the benefits of having pet insurance? Family pets are a part of your life. They are your companions, guardians and best friends. It's about peace of mind, giving your dog the best treatment in cases of sickness and emergencies. For example what if your dog becomes sick and it costs a lot of money in vets bills which your can't afford? With cover you don't have to worry about money, which ensures your dog's health comes first. Like us dogs do get sick. For example, your dog could get sick from something it's eaten, or more likely get injured in an attack by another dog, or traffic accident. In most cases dogs need some treatment at least once a year and unfortunately vets fees aren't free and can cost a lot of money, and the last thing you need to worry about is how to pay for this unexpected expense.

So what's on Offer?

With these thoughts in mind lets take a look at what's on offer. I would strongly recommend that you check out all options offered by the various companies around. I will give some links to a few that I have found. It has been quoted by one company that the top five claims are:

    1. Vet fees - relating to disease.

    2. Vets fees - relating to accident.

    3. Death due to disease.

    4. Death due to accident.

    5. Loss by theft or straying.

Availability

The next thing to consider is availability. In the UK and USA there doesn't appear to be a problem finding a large range of companies offering pet insurance. Here in Australia however, we appear have less of a range to choose from. The RSPCA does offer a some good options. I recommend you have a look at these. It appears that most pet insurance companies offer cover to local residents only so selecting online cover from just any company is not an alternative.

The 1-800-PetMeds site also has an excellent information and products. The link to PetHealth 101 located at the top of the page is a must view. I highly recommend it.
